The island in brief
Cyprus, is positioned amongst three continents: Europe, Asia and Africa. It is found in the north-east part of the Mediterranean Sea and it is the third largest island in the Mediterranean after Sicily and Sardinia.
Many great historical people left their mark in the history of Cyprus since it was one of the biggest trade centers of the Mediterranean. Also by having a strategic position it became a common military base and was conquered numerous times. Alexander the Great and Cleopatra are only two of the many historical celebrities that stepped foot on the island. Aphrodite, the goddess of love, was and still is the local celebrity since it is said that she was born from the foam of the waves in Cyprus.
Many activities are available in Cyprus all year-round. This makes it an excellent holiday destination as it seems that the sun never leaves the Cypriot sky providing sunshine almost 320 days a year. The winter is mild and not too rough the temperature staying above 5 degrees. With the rain, everything is deeped in green and ideal for long walks, hicking, horse-riding, cycling and many more. With the occasional snow, the Troodos mountains provide an excellent skiing experience.
For the outdoor-lovers the landscape varies in such a way to satisfy everyone including rugged coasts & mountain peaks, sunny vineyards & cool pine forests, flat expanses of olive orchards & dense banana groves. In the summer, the beaches are amazing with the golden sand all around the island providing a refreshing tone to the hot days. That’s where the glory of Cyprus is shown.
